Saturday-After-Thanksgiving Concert, Downers Grove IL

I’m excited that the legendary John McEuen will join us this year! Multi-instrumentalist and founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, he was responsible for the famous “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” album, that introduced folk music legends to a new generation.

My 27th annual concert will be Nov 24, the Saturday after Thanksgiving in Downers Grove IL.
Join us as I return my hometown for a night of music with new visual backdrops, home-baked goods made by my family, hot apple cider courtesy of Trader Joe’s, and a chance to win a Washburn guitar from Tobias Music! I will celebrate the release of a holiday card/CD “Christmas Wish,” and as always, a portion of proceeds will go to the Music for Life Alliance to support music education. ….Muriel

For Her 27th Annual Saturday-After-Thanksgiving Concert

Nashville, TN: Legendary roots musician John McEuen, founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and the groundbreaking “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” album, joins guitarist/harp-guitarist Muriel Anderson as she returns to her hometown Downers Grove, IL for her 27th annual Saturday-After-Thanksgiving concert. Together they promise an evening of world-class acoustic music, down-home stories, and a celebration including refreshments and a chance to win a new guitar.

When: Saturday November 24th, 8:00 p.m.
Where: Downers Grove North High School Auditorium, 4436 Main Street, Downers Grove, IL.
Tickets: $22 advance/$25 at the door, $15/$17 students (through high school) and seniors (65+) available at Anderson’s Bookshop, Tobias Music or online at murielanderson.com/dg

Fun stuff: As in previous years, concert goers will have a chance to win a new Washburn acoustic guitar courtesy of Tobias Music and will be treated to complimentary hot apple cider and treats courtesy of Trader Joe’s and Muriel’s family. A portion of proceeds go to Anderson’s Music for Life Alliance charity, helping to bring music education to young people who may not otherwise have the opportunity.

What’s New and What’s Old: Muriel Anderson will celebrate the release an innovative greeting card/CD combo. (murielanderson.com/wish) Her “Nightlight Daylight” CD was listed as a top 10 of the decade by Guitar Player Magazine, and McEuen’s CD “Made In Brooklyn” won Best Americana by the INDEPENDENT RECORDS AWARDS association. His “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” album energized the folk boom by introducing legendary folk musicians to a new generation and was inducted in to the Library of Congress as “one of America’s most important recordings.”

More about Muriel Anderson:
Anderson is notably admired by guitarists across the globe, including Chet Atkins and Les Paul, and has performed with Chet, Les, Victor Wooten and the Nashville Chamber Orchestra among others. Her “Heartstrings” recording accompanied the astronauts on the space shuttle Discovery. Her obvious joy of music, humor and her facility across the genres of folk, classical, jazz, bluegrass and international music is revered by guitarists worldwide. An engaging performer, Muriel’s unique approach to the instrument virtually transforms the guitar into a lyrical choir, then a marching band, then a Japanese koto, then a Bluegrass band, one minute launching into a Beatles’ tune and the next, a Spanish classic. Muriel is host of the renowned Muriel Anderson’s ALL STAR GUITAR NIGHT® and founder of the MUSIC FOR LIFE ALLIANCE charity.
“Just one hell of a great player.”–Les Paul
“Muriel Anderson is a good friend and a great guitarist. ”–Chet Atkins

More about John McEuen:
A founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1966, John McEuen instigated the 1972 classic Will the Circle Be Unbroken album. He has earned Emmy nominations, Grammy Awards, and CMA acclaim. With music from 1860’s to now, original songs laced with known hits, (and “behind the curtain” stories about them), it all comes to life in an evening of acoustic music in overdrive. McEuen has performed and/or recorded on a variety of instruments with a who’s who of country and popular music, including Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, The Band, The Doobie Brothers, Tom Petty and many others (and McEuen has stories about all of them). His new book, The Life I’ve Picked, is in its 2nd printing since its May release. McEuen’s love of performing is evident and it’s no wonder he was chosen as Folk Alliance’s Best of the West Performer. There is so much more we can say, but perhaps you can experience it yourself or visit www.johnmceuen.com
