CA Tour & Whale Watching

It was great to see so many friends in California! Thanks to everyone! Enjoyed watching the whales off the coast of Long Beach, just before the concert. The grey whale did a beautiful dive, but the shutter on the camera just missed it.  Fill in with imagination.  The theater where I played that night is […]

Finnish Pinwheel Christmas Tarts

Pinwheel tarts have been a favorite Finnish holiday tradition in my home ever since I remember.  They take some time to put together, and I remember helping my mother fold the pinwheel shapes when I was a very little girl, as my niece and nephew now do.  They are surprisingly delicious. The recipe supplied by my great aunt, Saima […]

Savory Crepe Trio

When I was in Brittany, France I couldn’t get enough of their delicious savory crepes, or “gallettes.” I would go to a creperie every meal if possible, and often peek in the kitchen to see how the cooks made the crepes. When I returned to the USA, I still made them at home and at […]

Serenading fawn in garden

I sat on my front step and played lullabies to this little fawn who sat down in the grass to listen: Here is also a video of a Fawn and in my garden greeting each other:

Anchovies or Smelts

When I was in Italy I enjoyed some very simple and delicious country cooking, and got some good tips in the kitchen. When cooking oily fish like smelts or fresh anchovies, layer them with breadcrumbs or thin potato slices to absorb the oils. In a baking pan, start with a layer of fresh Italian bread, […]

In Memory of Velzoe Brown

A dear friend, Velzoe Brown, passed away at age 101. I wrote “Velzoe’s Garden” for her. It appears on the Wildcat CD and the sheet music is also published in the current issue of Acoustic Guitar Japan. This week from my garden in Nashville I filmed Velzoe’s Garden

Pair of Pears

Simple as can be, I enjoyed this country dessert at Hal’s parents’ house in Croatia.  It is still my favorite pear dessert. Pick a couple ripe pears off the tree. Put them in a pan in medium oven and a half hour later take out and they are done!
