Day 36 A Small Miracle

8/24 We arrived at Swans Island to pick up a folding bicycle we had ordered and sent there. Bryan walked to Doug Day’s house, found the bike in the barn and rode it back toward the ferry landing where we had anchored. I stopped on the way back to send me a text on his new 2-week-old phone (as the old one which also functions as our GPS had completely died). He folded the bike up, put it in the dinghy and rowed back out to Avocet. Once aboard, he was horrified to find he had no phone. We motored back to tie up to the dock, reassembled the bike and he rode back along his route to look for the phone. Not finding it, we made preparations to leave. I wanted to try the bike out and took it for a ride. Bryan, seeing the water relatively warm at 59°, decided to put on a mask and look for the phone in the water. On his second dive, about 6 feet below the end of the dinghy dock he saw the phone. As he picked it up from the muddy bottom it lit up with the words “text from a friend.” We were rather stunned to see it working as he came up to the surface. He gave it freshwater bath, let it dry in the sun and it seems just fine. A small miracle.
