Day 40 Lobster Saves the Day

Aug 27 Once again a rainy morning gave way to a mostly sunny day. We left Rockland and around Owls Head, where I waved over a nearby lobsterman to ask if I could buy two lobsters. He dropped two lobsters into our dinghy and said, “no charge!” I asked if he had a way to play CDs, he nodded and I frizbee’d a Sailing Dreams CD to him and he said “you made my day!” Well, he certainly made mine, after a day filled with texts and calls with problems back home, we were able to sit down to a nice lobster dinner. The lobsters were not too big, just the right size for us. That’s the second time a lobsterman gave us our dinner, and three times people on shore have offered to let us use their car. Maine friendliness is second to none!
As far as the voyage, ocean was bouncy so we found a cove to wait for the tide to change, then anchored briefly at Matinick, a strange and somewhat desolate island, with a few houses and big sign with writing on it we couldn’t make out, but no people that we could see. From there we caught a breeze for a swift sail, heeling quite a bit, to anchor near Allen Island where we both went for a short swim. Me on purpose, and Bryan because I ran over a mooring ball and he had to untangle the pennant from our prop.
