Day 41 Fire!

Bryan was making dinner. One side of the stove was out of fuel so he began to add denatured alcohol. I said “Bryan, turn the other burner off. When I tried that the stove caught fire.” Bryan replied “Well, you’re not a pro, I’m a pro at this.” No sooner had he uttered the words that poof! the stove and counter were ablaze. Momentarily stunned by the spectacle we both watched and then the plastic filler bottle in Bryan’s hand which still contained a little alcohol popped and shot alcohol all over his pants which promptly caught fire as well. Bryan, ablaze from waist to toe, undressed quicker than you can say “holy crap” while I grabbed a sweatshirt to smother those flames and then bits on the floor. We were fortunate in that Bryan suffered just a few burns on the side of his hand and one leg, and casualties included only my sweatshirt and one melted sandal.

As far as our travels this day, we sailed from Davis Island, past Allen Island to Boothbay harbor where we had arranged to meet with Bryan’s former photography mentor the following day.
