My niece came up with a modification to the traditional pie, that was the hit of Thanksgiving dinner. She was kind to share it with us!
Use any crust recipe or premade.
Preheat oven to 350
2 T butter
1 1/2 cups chopped pecans
3 eggs beaten
1 c real maple syrup
scant 1/2 c coconut sugar (or regular white sugar)
1/3 c melted butter
1 t vanilla extract
1/2 t salt
zest from one orange
In a heavy skillet, melt 2 T butter over low heat. Add nuts and stir 5 min or until nuts begin to color. Let
cool around 10 min. Add all other ingredients. Pour filling into crust. Bake 45-50 min, or until filling is set.
